OTHER GUIDANCE SERVICES

All Grade Levels
-Educational and career planning resource materials are annually updated and available to all students and parents.  They can be checked out overnight and/or for three days from the Resource Center, which is located on the other side of Guidance Reception.


-Individual Career Guidance/Career Development services are available to students and parents by appointment.

-Vocational/technical information and opportunities are advertised on WCAT and displayed in the Resource Center.  Brochures are available for Sata Fe College dual-enrollment, Alachua County Magnet School and Academy Programs, Santa Fe College/University of Florida Tech-Prep options, US Military Service, etc.

-Post-secondary educational and career exploration includes the maintence of college videos and catalogue files, hosting of college representatives, and educational and career-related field trips.


-ACTive Prep: A computerized stardized test practice and remediation program is availble in the Resource Center before school or during the school day by appointment.


 9th Grade
-Introduction to education and career planning: Classroom guidance and career orientation modules are implemented in early fall.  These activities focus on the role of career planning in high school as well as throughout life transitions.  

10th Grade

 -College and career outlook seminar: This classroom presentation explores the various two and four year college degrees.  It highlights the academic preparation required for various career paths and examines the SAT/ACT preparation and testing processes.  A college testing (Princeton Review) preparation workshop is offered in the fall and again after spring break. 

-The PLAN  is administered and interpreted. The UNIACT Interest Inventory is included in this program.  A powerpoint presentation introduces students to personal preferences and skills as they relate to career clusters and employment perspectives.

11th Grade
-Administration and interpretation of the
ASVAB.  The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude BAttery is an academic and vocational aptitute test which is excellent practice for the SAT/ACT college admissions exams.  The test is administered in October, to all those who choose to take it, and scores are interpreted in early November.


-Administration and Interpretation of Exploring Careers. This student workbook provides an interest inventory, career planning guide, and financial aid analysis to students who took the ASVAB.

-Career Skills Unit.  This unit includes resume writing, job application and phone/personal job interview techniques.  It is implemented through junior English classes in the spring.

-Individual career testing and planning is encouraged for 11th graders.


12th Grade
-Financial Aid Seminar: This classroom presentation outlines financial aid and scholarship processes.  Handouts, website addresses, and resource materials are distributed to all seniors.  It is implemented through American Government and Economics classes in September/October.

-Clollege Applications:  Santa Fe College, University of Florida applications for State Universityies are available in the Resource Center and the Guidance Reception area.  Students may use the Reource Lab to
access college websites and download applications.

-Students who have not completed career inventories or researched career options should plan to complete these activities their senior year.  Individual career-planning conferences are strongly suggested for students who have no serious career plans as of yet.


-Scholarship Resource Binder and Vertical File:  A 3-ring binder of scholarship "abstracts" is housed in every senior English and Social Studies class as well as in the Media Center and Guidance Offices.  It is updated on a regular basis.  Original application packets are filed in the Guidance Reception area.  They are copied at no charge to the students.
