GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Standard Diploma:
In order to receive a Standard Diploma students must complete all course and credit requirements, have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrate mastery of State Department of Education approved Minimum Student Performance Standards measured by the Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test (FCAT). A Standard Diploma requires the following 24 total credits (typically 6 per year):
Graduating Class of 2010
English: 4 credits
Mathematics: 3 credits
-1 credit must be Algebra I or its equivalent
Physical Education: 1 credit
-Personal Fitness: 1/2 credit
-Another P.E.: 1/2 credit
-Band and ROTC can fulfill the 1/2 of Another P.E.
-Two seasons of j.v./varsity sport plus passing a P.E. test can waive this requirement
Life Management Skills: 1/2 credit
Science: 3 credits
Social Studies:3 credits
-American Government: 1/2 credit
-Economics: 1/2 credit
-American History: 1 credit
-World History: 1 credit
Performing Arts/Vocational Arts: 1/2 credit each OR 1 credit in either area
Electives: 8 1/2 credits
Graduating Class of 2011 and Beyond
English: 4 credits
Mathematics: 4 credits
-1 credit must be Algebra I or its equivalent
Science: 3 credits
Social Studies: 3 credits
-American Government: 1/2 credit
-Economics: 1/2 credit
-American History: 1 credit
-World History: 1 credit
HOPE (or 1/2 Personal Fitness and 1/2 another P.E.): 1 credit
-Band and ROTC can fulfill the 1/2 of Another P.E.
-Two seasons of j.v./varsity sport plus passing a P.E. test can waive this requirement
Fine Arts: 1 credit
Electives (4 Major & 4 Electives): 8 credits
**Beginning with the graduating class of 2011, each student is required to have 4 Major credits during high school. If you have any questions about this or any other graduation requirements please contact or make an appointment with your counselor.
Alternative Diploma Options:
Must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and demonstrate mastery of the student performance or Sunshine State Standards for a Special Diploma (option 1)
Special Diploma Option 1
Academic: 8 credits
Career and Technical: 3 credits
Life Management Transition (LMT): 1 credit
Physical Education: 1 credit
Electives: 11 credits
Special Diploma Option 2
-Must achieve all annual goals and short-term objectives related to employment and community competencies as specified in the Transition Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)
-Must demonstrate mastery of competencies specified in the individual graduation plan
-Must be successfully employed in a community based job for a minimum of 180 days (2 semesters)
